Event Navigation

The Women’s Clothing Exchange at Germantown Jewish Centre is a highly anticipated, annual community and charitable event that draws hundreds of people each year.  The event serves the wider community in many ways, from being an environmentally friendly source for clothes recycling to a truly enjoyable social time with friends to funds supporting interfaith work which improves communities across the state.  Past attendees have said that this event is a win-win; they get to clean out their closets and take home some great finds, knowing their donations are helping the earth and its inhabitants!  The week before the event, anyone is welcome to donate clothing and accessories that are in good condition.  GJC asks that items are clean and free of stains, rips, and tears.  Easy drive-up collection bins are located outside of the doors along GJC’s driveway, and are also located inside the building through the main office entrance.  During the event itself, GJC’s Marcus Auditorium is set up like a giant bazaar.  People from all over the city come and pay $20 to “shop” for shoes, sweaters, coats, jeans, dresses, skirts, blouses, jewelry, accessories, pajamas, lingerie, bathing suits, exercise gear, vests, shorts, and just about any item of clothing you can think of!  It’s a festive atmosphere with music, coffee, and a private place for trying on clothes, so grab a friend or four and head on over to Germantown Jewish Centre!

This year’s event is being held on Sunday, January 27 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a suggested donation of $20 to enter and shop ‘til you drop!  Items may be dropped off the week before on Tuesday through Thursday, 1/22, 1/23, & 1/24, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Friday, 1/25, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The proceeds will be used by GJC to support its work with POWER, an interfaith organization committed to implementing systemic change for the betterment of PA communities (powerinterfaith.org).  After the event is over, all leftover items are donated to Whosoever Gospel Mission in Germantown. This program supports people who have been homeless and struggled with addictions in getting the help they need to get clean, sober and vocational training.
