World Fair Trade Day Shabbat

At GJC, World Fair Trade Day will be celebrated as part of Shabbat services on May 13, 2017. In the words of the original Fair Trade Day organizers, fair trade makes “a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty and exploitation…and the economic crises that have the greatest impact on the world’s most vulnerable populations.” Fair trade standards include setting stable and sustainable prices for producers, insuring workers receive a fair wage, and eliminating child and exploitative labor.

Men's Club Day at JRA

On Sunday, April 2nd, volunteers of all ages and backgrounds meet as a community at JRA's northeast Philadelphia warehouse (10980 Dutton Road, adjacent to the NE Airport). Volunteers pack over 3000 boxes with fresh produce and non-perishable kosher food, and deliver food and a smile into the homes of those in need.  See: https://www.jewishrelief.org.  All of these food packing events are important to those in need, but this one which will include matzah and other Passover foods, has particular significance.

HAZAK Program: AGAINST TIME: LETTERS FROM NAZI GERMANY, 1938-1939 with author Francis W. Hoeber

Join Hazak as transcriber Francis W. Hoeber presents a body of work near and dear to his heart.  In the late 1980s, Hoeber discovered a packet of letters in the back of a filing cabinet in his house, which had never been open. They were yellowed, typed and handwritten wrinkled pages, in German, dated 1938 and 1939.
