Charry & Minyan Masorti: Bat Mitzvah of Rebecca Miller

The Charry Service provides a traditional, egalitarian service with a focus on learning.  Both women and men participate equally in our service, and we encourage and provide opportunities for participants to learn the language (Hebrew) and the skills (chants and tunes) that allow them to lead the prayers and to read from the sacred texts that make up the core of our service.  Our Rabbis and other guest teachers open up new perspectives on these texts and encourage discussion during our extended study period after the Torah is read.

Minyan Masorti: Pesach & Shabbat Service w/ Yizkor

Minyan Masorti is one of three prayer communities that gather regularly at GJC for Shabbat and Holiday davening (prayer) and celebrations (see also Charry Service and Minyan Dorshei Derekh). Our tefilot (prayers) consist of an egalitarian version of a traditional service. We're an informal and welcoming group. Davening, singing, learning, eating, drinking, and schmoozing are some of our specialties.

Dorshei Derekh

Minyan Dorshei Derekh ("Seekers of a Way") is one of the three davening (prayer) groups that meet on Shabbat and Holiday mornings at GJC (see also Charry Service and Minyan Masorti). We are a dynamic, progressive, inclusive, and warm worshipping community. Our minyan is home to people of many different ages and backgrounds, reflecting the rich diversity of Northwest Philadelphia and beyond. As part of GJC, we are an affiliate of the United Synagogue for Conservative Judaism. Dorshei Derekh is also an affiliate of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation.

Beit Midrash: "Angry People, Angry God"

When is anger productive and when is it destructive? Biblical and rabbinic literature is full of anger, both human and divine. We’ll study a variety of texts (in translation) dealing with anger to find models that help us channel our anger in constructive directions.

Beit Midrash for adults will take place each Shabbat morning from 9:30-10:00am in the Magil Chapel.  Please feel free to enjoy coffee and cocoa on the Religious School landing beginning at 9 AM.
January 6 through February 24
