People of the Book
GJC's Jewish Book Reading Group meets at 7:15pm in GJC's Quitman Library. We read fiction and nonfiction books of Jewish interest written mostly, but not solely, by Jewish writers and chosen by the group. Volunteer group members lead the discussion. For more information, please contact Vilma Lieberman.
December's book group is reading and discussing:
Moving Day by Jonathan Stone fiction 273pp
When a con man steals forty years’ accumulation of Stanley Peke’s art, antiques, and family photographs, he is reminded of another helpless time: decades in Peke’s past, a cold and threadbare Stanislaw Shmuel Pecoskowitz eked out a desperate existence in the war-torn Polish countryside, subsisting on scraps and dodging Nazi soldiers. Now, the seventy-two-year-old Peke—who survived, came to America, and succeeded—must summon his original grit and determination to track down the thieves, retrieve his things, and restore the life he made for himself.
